Smiths Detection wins $6M order from TSA for explosives detectors

IONSCAN 500DT trace explosives detectors to be deployed at airport checkpoints

PINE BROOK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 21, 2008--Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, today announces a $6 million order from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for IONSCAN 500DT trace explosives detectors for use at airport checkpoints.

In August 2008, the IONSCAN 500DT was the first dual explosives detector to be placed by the TSA on the Qualified Products List. It can detect trace amounts of explosives from a single sample in seconds using proven Ion Mobility Spectrometry technology.
