Companies deliver an EMV instant credit, debit card issuance solution

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 4, 2008– HID Global, the trusted leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity, and Dynamic Card Solutions (DCS), the leader in instant issuance software, today announced they have partnered to deliver an EMV instant issuance solution that enables financial institutions to cost-effectively issue highly personalized non-embossed credit and debit cards. This revolutionary solution is already being successfully used by multiple issuers of Visa branded cards.

By combining DCS’ patented CardWizard software and FCP 20/20 flat card printer, powered by HID Global’s High Definition Printing™ (HDP) technology, financial institutions can now instantly issue secure, flat-panel EMV cards that function just like traditional embossed cards, but without raised numbers and lettering. With 98 percent of worldwide transactions being processed electronically, the need for embossed characters on payment cards has virtually been eliminated.

"This new solution reflects both companies’ commitment to innovation in EMV instant issuance," said Spencer Clark, director of international markets for DCS. "Most issuers have outgrown the traditional model of stocking preprinted card inventory for each card they issue at every branch location. Instead, our new solution enables issuers to start with a scheme-branded white card stock, which is then fully printed and personalized—chip and stripe included—all in one quick pass through the FCP 20/20. Our instant issuance clients are thrilled with the HID Global HDP technology."

"We are pleased to OEM manufacture the FCP 20/20 printer for DCS and are excited about its positive reception in the market," said Steve Wagner, chief operating officer, HID Global. "This partnership shows our dedication to providing the market with leading-edge secure card issuance technology."

HID Global’s patented HDP printing technology in the FCP 20/20 produces a reverse image on the underside of HDP film, which is then fused to the card surface, resulting in cards with photo-quality, continuous-tone images that replicate the look of litho-printed cards. In addition, the HDP film conforms to ridges and indentations formed by embedded electronics and makes the cards tamper-evident and highly resistant to wear and abrasion.

Because the non-embossed cards are personalized on-demand, customers can select from multiple background images at the branch or store location when they request a card. With such flexibility, financial institutions can expand their marketing potential with sophisticated affinity or loyalty programs. The card background, cardholder name, card number, expiration date and the three-digit security code on the back are then simultaneously printed to produce a highly customized card.

The flat card solution will be on display at CARTES & IDentification 2008 in Paris Nov. 4-6 at DCS’ stand 4R053. DCS will be personalizing dual interface (contact and contactless) EMV cards using the new FCP 20/20 flat card printer. The OEM print engine will be displayed at HID Global’s stand 3H002.
