Tech Data promotes John O'Shea to VP of networking

O'Shea to head up marketing strategies for network solutions sales, SBUs


CLEARWATER, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2009) – IT products distributor Tech Data Corporation today announced the promotion of John O'Shea to vice president, Networking Product Marketing. O'Shea will lead a team of channel marketing and product management professionals supporting Tech Data's networking solutions sales, as well as three Specialized Business Units (SBUs)—Physical Security, Telephony and Wireless—focused on emerging networking technologies.

"Tech Data has positioned our networking division to further strengthen the support we provide VARs, as well as broaden our marketing resources and capabilities to help networking vendors better engage the channel," said Tech Data Senior Vice President, U.S. Marketing Joe Quaglia. "John's extensive technical, marketing and operational experience is a valuable addition to our networking team. Under his leadership, we will continue building upon our best-in-class data-mining capabilities to identify, engage, recruit and enable resellers on behalf of our vendors, generating new business and creating long-lasting, rewarding partnerships."

O'Shea joined Tech Data in 1996 as a finance and credit analyst. Since then, he has held numerous senior management positions. Most recently, O'Shea was director, product marketing for Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division. He was responsible for developing and executing marketing initiatives in support of the division's high-end server and storage solutions from leading vendors HP, Fujitsu and EMC. Prior to that, O'Shea was director, Sales and Marketing Operations, overseeing a team of more than 50 people responsible for developing and executing Tech Data's pricing strategy and many other critical operational activities, such as sales reporting and analysis.

O'Shea earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a master's degree in business administration from Florida State University. He was promoted to his current role following Chuck Bartlett being named vice president, Cisco Solutions Group earlier this month.

Comprehensive Networking Solutions

Tech Data's Networking Product Marketing Division supports the go-to-market channel strategies of dozens of leading manufacturers such as Avocent, Enterasys, Extreme Networks, HP ProCurve, Nortel, SonicWALL and 3Com. Its broad product offering includes bridges, gateways, routers, switches, security appliances and management devices, as well as infrastructure hardware and accessories like racks and cabling.
