DHS grants WSI SAFETY Act certification

Designation to cover firm's armed, unarmed security services

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Wackenhut Services Inc. is pleased to announce that the Department of Homeland Security has granted SAFETY Act Designation and Certification for our security and fire services, which places WSI's services on the "Approved Products List for Homeland Security". SAFETY Act Certification, the highest level of DHS protection, significantly lowers liability exposure to both WSI and its customers should a future act of terrorism occur.

WSI's Designation and Certification cover the company's armed and unarmed security services, specialized security forces (to include paramilitary forces that guard DOE Special Nuclear Material) and fire protection and emergency response services. The certification follows the Department's rigorous review of WSI's operations, procedures, safety plans, training and quality assurance processes. This exhaustive review validates WSI's services as effective, reliable and safe.

The SAFETY (Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology) Act was designed to encourage the development and deployment of anti-terrorism technologies and services to enhance the security of the United States.

Through its passage of the SAFETY Act, Congress ensured that the threat of liability would not deter potential sellers from deploying services that could significantly reduce the risk of, or mitigate the effects of a terrorist attack.
