FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been selected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as one of 46 awardees of the Information Technology Supplies and Support Services (IT SSS) contract. The multiple award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract has a potential value of $30 billion to all awardees over eight years if all options are exercised.
General Dynamics will provide technical services for the FBI's multiple information technology systems and engage in developmental projects and programs. These services include refreshing program information technology, hardware and software operations and maintenance, server maintenance, hardware configuration, database management, technical/enterprise architecture and design, critical infrastructure protection, network security and risk and vulnerability management. The work will be primarily performed in the Washington, D.C. area, Clarksburg, W. Va., and Quantico, Va.

Currently, General Dynamics provides IT management services at the FBI's headquarters and field offices. The company implemented a complete technical refresh of the FBI enterprise network, integrating network equipment at more than 700 locations and deploying more than 27,000 new desktop workstations to 56 field offices and selected resident agencies. General Dynamics also supports the Department of Justice's Integrated Wireless Network (IWN) program, an initiative to provide secure, interoperable wireless communications for federal law enforcement missions and first responder operations.
With the IT SSS contract, the FBI will provide coordination, simplicity and uniformity in its IT acquisition process by executing basic ordering agreements with vendors that provide supplies and support services. This will increase accountability, identify inefficiencies and increase project and program success.
