CCAT San Diego to Provide Commercialization Assistance to Defense and Security Technologies

San Diego, CA (Oct. 10, 2006) – The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) in San Diego, California today announced plans to award business services that are designed to speed the commercialization process for technologies dedicated to military, homeland security and first responder operations. CCAT will accept applications from government laboratories, academic researchers, and small entrepreneurs who have engineered technologies for use in defense and security applications from October 16 through November 15, 2006.

The Center is particularly interested in reviewing technologies that have been developed through the prototype stage and are ready for transition to a commercial product. Companies which have successfully completed, or will complete shortly, a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II project are encouraged to apply.

Submitted technologies will undergo a detailed review, evaluation and selection process, after which, selected technologist(s) will be offered tailored transition services such as comprehensive commercialization planning, customized market research, business development, investment networking and other support to facilitate market introduction. All services are performed by CCAT staff in close collaboration with key representatives of the selected organizations to ensure success.

“All too often, promising new cutting edge technologies that could have a huge impact on solving a critical national defense problem die on the vine for lack of commercialization planning,” said Tom Sheffer, program director for CCAT at San Diego State University (SDSU) Research Foundation. “That’s where CCAT comes in - CCAT has extensive experience working with engineering-oriented laboratories and research companies which have limited resources to assist in successfully getting their technologies into the market.”

Award recipients will be announced in at the end of January, 2007. To submit technology for consideration or for more information the solicitation, please visit www.ccatsandiego.org.
