Virage to Debut Suite of Self-Learning Video Scene Understanding Products at ASIS

Sept. 26, 2006
First Proactive, Conceptually Self-Training System Rewrites the Rules on Increased Security Automation and Reduced False Alarms

San Francisco, Calif., September 25th, 2006 - Virage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L) and leader in Security and Surveillance technology, today announced the launch of its suite of self-learning video scene understanding products at ASIS. Virage’s Command and Control Suite which integrates all of these products is the first proactive, conceptually self-training system and delivers unparalleled interactive security to customers.

ASIS International is the largest organization for security professionals, with more than 33,000 members worldwide. ASIS will be held from September 25-28, at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, CA. Demonstrations of the full Virage Security and Surveillance product range will be available at booth #7001.

With Autonomy’s core technology powering its products, Virage’s intelligent video management system, the Command and Control Suite, will take security and surveillance technology into the fourth generation. Virage’s fourth generation unmanned security software inserts revolutionary intelligence into the camera. While competitors offer post-event, Reactive Surveillance, Virage’s products now offer Proactive Surveillance that makes sense of captured video. Essentially, Virage software uses captured video to continually train itself to recognize and understand activity patterns; this forward-thinking software automates the detection of potentially threatening activities.

David Humphrey, Managing Director of Virage Security and Surveillance, commented: “The combination of Virage’s video analytical expertise with Autonomy’s industry leading ability to make sense of disparate information though the IDOL platform, is unbelievably powerful and unique in this industry. Security professionals looking to dramatically enhance their system capabilities now have a powerful new tool to accomplish their goals."

A first in the US, Virage’s Command and Control Suite manages all of the applications and adds a new level of intelligence to modern security features. For example, the system can now recognize not only the size and color of objects in a crowded subway station; it can also identify and alert authorities of any abnormal behavior, distinguishing between minor and major alarms. In addition, Virage’s unprecedented Command and Control Suite can review and interrogate up to 64,000 cameras. These cameras go beyond recording; they take an investigative role in managing designated areas. When utilized in airports, for example, Virage’s Object Detector functionality continuously monitors an area to identify objects that have been left unattended for too long, looking for objects that are not part of the “normal” scene. It then issues real-time alerts upon detecting exceptions.
