Two network dome cameras for professional surveillance and remote monitoring applications: 231D+ and 232D+

SAN DIEGO – (Sept. 25, 2006) – ASIS Booth #1845 - Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, has developed two network dome cameras for professional surveillance and remote monitoring applications. The AXIS 231D+ Network Dome Camera and the AXIS 232D+ Network Dome Camera can be operated with the AXIS 295 Video Surveillance Joystick to provide continuous, 360 degree pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) over IP networks. They are ideal for professional security installations in applications such as transportation, education, government and retail.

The AXIS 231D+ and AXIS 232D+ deliver full frame rate video up to 30 frames a second, and multiple video streams with simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 compression. Both cameras allow users to program 20 preset positions and an automatic guard tour to automatically monitor activities in key areas. The joystick control is specifically designed to improve the PTZ responsiveness and control accuracy for these dome cameras. It features a three-axis (Hall-effect) joystick, an X/Y-axis for positioning, a turning knob for zoom, and 12 programmable switches.

“Network dome cameras are beneficial because all pan, tilt and zoom controls can be handled over the IP network, so no additional cabling is needed,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. “With the 295 Video Surveillance Joystick, end-users get the same level of control as they are accustomed to with an analog dome camera and joystick.”

Both of the Axis network dome cameras feature a built-in 18x optical zoom and a 12x digital zoom with and auto focus lens. They provide day/night functionality with the AXIS 232D+ operating down to 0.005 lux. Both network dome cameras also provide alarm inputs and outputs, advanced event management functions, and security features such as HTTPS and IP address filtering.

The Axis joystick uses a USB connection and operates over an IP network, which makes it easier to install and use than traditional joystick options that require extra cabling, protocol support and an analog joystick. It integrates seamlessly with any video surveillance software platform that recognizes joystick inputs from Microsoft's DirectX.

The AXIS 231D+, AXIS 232D+ and AXIS 295 joystick are currently shipping through Axis’ distribution channels. The manufacturer’s suggest retail prices are: $1,999 for the AXIS 231D+; $2,299 for the AXIS 232D+; and $349 for the AXIS 295.
