Government Security Expo & Conference, Washington, DC, Booth # 2249 — Lenel, a UTC Fire & Security company, introduces IdentityDefender, an end-to-end solution for issuing identity credentials (cards) to trusted individuals using a trusted process to comply with FIPS 201. Lenel will present and demonstrate IdentityDefender at the GovSec 2006 event in Washington, D.C.
The IdentityDefender solution is modular in architecture. Four main component modules collectively perform a full suite of identity management functions to manage all phases of the credential issuance process. Central to that process is the IdentityDirector module, a server application that manages the credentialing workflow, including life cycle administration, protection of the applicant’s data and communication with the other modules. The IdentityCollector module provides intuitive, straightforward capture of the applicant’s photographic, biometric and demographic data, which is then communicated to IdentityDirector. The IdentityProducer module prints the applicant’s credential and pre-personalizes the data by loading the applications and containers. In the IdentityActivator module, the credential is verified and activated for use. An ancillary module of IdentityDefender is IdentityEnforcer, a logical access application that enables a credentialholder to log on to a computer using a fingerprint, credential or both.
IdentityDefender was designed for use in both commercial and government sector applications, and meets all the requirements of HSPD-12 and FIPS 201. FIPS 201 is a Federal Information Processing Standard developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to satisfy the dictates of HSPD-12, a Homeland Security Presidential Directive. FIPS 201 seeks to improve identification and authentication of Federal employees and contractors for access to Federal facilities and information systems. It ensures that the credential the employee or contractor presents to a card reader was issued by the trusted application, and that the card itself can be trusted.
IdentityDefender is a commercial, off-the-shelf product. Its component modules can be deployed individually or in combination as customer needs dictate. Each module can integrate seamlessly into the customer’s existing systems, and each module seamlessly integrates with the others. If an organization has already made an investment in a system that performs some of the required tasks, IdentityDefender can be implemented to fill in the gaps and achieve a secure, end-to-end credential issuance operation.
