Axis Introduces Compact Fixed Dome Network Camera for Indoor Video Surveillance

April 7, 2006

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – (April 5, 2006) – Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, announced today the high performance AXIS 216FD Fixed Dome Network Camera. The AXIS 216FD has a compact and discreet design with effective protection against tampering, which makes it ideal for applications such as retail and education.

The AXIS 216FD has a varifocal DC-iris lens and provides superior image quality with progressive scan and up to 30 frames per second in VGA resolution. The camera’s advanced image processing delivers crisp and clear images, even in low light conditions. It utilizes simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams to optimize both image quality and bandwidth efficiency.

The network camera contains a built-in microphone and can be connected to external speakers, making it suitable for surveillance and remote monitoring applications that require the ability to see, hear, and communicate with visitors or intruders in real time. Its built-in support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) – according to the IEEE 802.3af standard – decreases installation costs by enabling power to be delivered through the same network cable as data, video and audio.

“Fixed domes have become very popular the last few years, since they are discreet and easy to install,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager for Axis Communications. “The AXIS 216FD is designed to complement the AXIS 225FD, which was Axis’ first fixed dome network camera offering. With this addition to our product portfolio, we continue to meet our customers’ needs for increased choice and flexibility.”

The AXIS 216FD is supported by the industry’s largest base of application software through the Axis ADP program. The network camera will be available through Axis’ distribution channels this month for the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $799.
