Leader in IP network camera market to provide state-of-the-art security tools to help keep communities safe

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – (September 24, 2007) – Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, announced today the company has joined a coalition of public and private partners to support and advance the Safe City initiative. Safe City is a community-based safety program that brings together law enforcement, businesses, residents, city officials and cutting-edge technology to protect communities and reduce crime.

Axis Communications is one of several national Safe City sponsors that will provide resources such as financial contributions, technical solutions and/or ongoing program support. The company will contribute network cameras and enclosures, on-site assistance, which may include system design assistance, technology training and education.

“Axis is committed to working with the many public and private partners that support Safe City, while investing our time and resources to make our communities and cities safe,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. “Axis’ advanced network cameras, which include razor-sharp details on video, motion detection and tamper-resistance, will be part of the total security solution used in the program.”

“As a national sponsor of the Safe City program, we are excited to partner with Axis on our continued commitment to reducing crime in the communities we work in,” said Steve Persian, process owner of Safe City, Target Corporation. “Target has significant security resources, from team members to technology. We believe that by sharing those resources and expertise with our partners, together we can build safer, more vibrant communities.”

The Safe City initiative uses a combination of technical and information-sharing tools. Safe City partners work together to replace or upgrade existing resources and technical systems in an effort to create communities where residents, patrons and visitors feel safe and secure.

Safe City is a 2-year-old crime-fighting program that has achieved double-digit reductions in crime in various cities across the nation. Safe City communities include Boston; Cincinnati; Clovis, Calif.; Flint, Mich.; Minneapolis; Hyattsville, Md.; Fresno, Calif.; Chula Vista, Calif.; and Philadelphia.

Other sponsors of Safe City include IP-based video surveillance solutions provider, LenSec; Internet community alert provider, CitizenObserver; and application service provider (ASP), Netsential. Community partners of Safe City are comprised of law enforcement officers, municipal leaders, property managers, retail communities, chambers of commerce and service clubs, among others.
