ASIS Publishes Draft Standard on All Hazards Risk Management

Aug. 28, 2007
First of ASIS-developed standards opens for public review and comment

ASIS International, an organization of security professionals, announced Monday that it has released its All Hazards Risk Management Draft Best Practices Standard, and is seeking public review and comments.

This All Hazards draft standard is focused primarily on natural disasters, terrorist acts, as well as "technology mishaps" and "environmental accidents". The standard focuses on the proper response for such scenarios and ASIS International adds that the standards document is "an enhancement of the ASIS Business Continuity Guideline."

This standard is based and is written to complement ISO Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 22399, which sets benchmarks for emergency and disaster management. After review and finalization, ASIS will be submitting the All Hazards Risk Management best practices standard to ISO for international standard consideration.

ASIS International is seeking comments on the draft standard; the review/comment period is open until Oct. 16, 2007. The document and the associated comment form can be downloaded from the ASIS Guidelines web page.

The standards development initiative at ASIS is an off-growth from the ASIS "guidelines" program.
