PIPS Technology has been awarded a patent covering the use of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology as part of a sophisticated site security, monitoring and access control system, such as an Integrated Base Defense Security System (IBDSS).
U.S. Patent No. 7,119,674 presents a system whereby vehicle entry, exit, and movements within a secure facility are tracked using either the license plate or a temporary passive tag that can be issued and controlled by the facility. The license plates or temporary tags are tracked using a series of ALPR cameras positioned at the entry and exit of the facility, and also at various checkpoints throughout the facility that may require varying levels of access control. The system may provide alerts, trigger gates or other barriers, monitor duration of stay, and more.
