Axis 207W camera offers 802.11g connections, designed for entry level surveillance needs

CHELMSFORD, Mass. - Axis Communications, the recognized global leader in the network video market, launched today the AXIS 207W Network Camera, a true bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4 camera that provides the best image quality and compression of any camera in its class. The AXIS 207W is the world's smallest wireless MPEG-4 network camera and is designed for indoor surveillance and remote monitoring applications. It is ideal for securing small businesses, home offices and residences.

The AXIS 207W is based on the IEEE 802.11g standard, which provides significantly higher wireless transmission speeds than IEEE 802.11b. The AXIS 207W has been added to the AXIS 207 family of CMOS sensor-based network cameras, which provides excellent image quality in lighting conditions as low as one lux. The AXIS 207 family also features one-way audio, video motion detection and input/output connections for external devices.

"The AXIS 207W is the highest quality wireless network camera available for entry-level users today," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. "As more people are looking to secure their small businesses, home offices and residences, Axis is meeting their needs through the quality and affordability of the AXIS 207 product line."

The AXIS 207W comes with both Ethernet and wireless network interfaces and contains a built-in Web server that allows it to operate independently of a PC. It supports the WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and WPA2 protocols to provide the best security measures for wireless networks. The camera generates full-motion video (up to 30 frames a second in VGA resolution) using simultaneous MPEG-4 compression and Motion JPEG streaming.

The AXIS 207W is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. It also has a built-in ActiveX media player and is compatible with QuickTime, Real Networks, Mplayer, PacketVideo, and handheld devices such as PDAs and cell phones. Additional features include UPnP and Bonjour support, alarm and event management, video motion detection, and multiple user access levels with password protection.

The AXIS 207W will be available this month through Axis' distribution channels. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $299.
