SecureWorld Expo and Security Technology & Design Present 2006 Convergence Series

Feb. 1, 2006
Regional convergence seminars bring physical and IT security together

Convergence: It’s the security buzzword haunting many C-level executives. How IT and physical security technology, protocols and philosophy work together is also the single biggest challenge facing top security professionals today.

Presented in conjunction with SecureWorld Expo, Security Technology & Design’s Security Convergence seminar tour is a high-end regional touring seminar series designed to promote the ideals of constructive communication between security end user professionals, technology leaders and systems integrators.

These two-day seminar series will provide corporate security directors on the physical and IT sides of the house a venue to discuss cutting-edge solutions, and sit face-to-face with end user peers and top integrators. This is a solutions forum unique to the industry and designed to meet the needs of both physical and IT security professionals.

About SecureWorld Expo

SecureWorld Expo is the first regional conference formed to promote the ideals of fostering communication between security professionals and technology leaders, to discuss best practices and to bind that body of thought in a public/private partnership with business and government. Security in the 21st century will be a driving principle for business and government, and SecureWorld Expo has been designed to drive that discussion.

Business and government are faced with the challenge of simultaneously promoting openness and protecting their enterprise. To achieve this goal, senior executives and government leaders must understand one fundamental principle: security and strategy are interdependent. Communicating across the enterprise between departments, across boundaries and to customers is critical. Bridging that communication with government is essential in developing a secure world.

Because many of the security issues facing corporate security professionals today tend to revolve around regional issues, the concept for SecureWorld has prompted a regional approach. Venues that will be targeted in 2006 include:

  • Boston – March 15-16
  • Philadelphia – April 19-20
  • Atlanta – May 2-3
  • Chicago – May 16-17
  • Detroit – Sept. 21-22
  • Seattle – Oct. 10-11
  • San Francisco – Nov. 1-2
  • Dallas – Dec. 6-7

The first event of the 2006 SecureWorld Expo series, scheduled for Boston, will feature more than 30 educational sessions, panel discussions and exclusive peer-to-peer roundtable meetings spanning topics from physical security integration, logical and physical security convergence, information and data security and security protocols. The featured keynote will be Karen Worstell, chief information security officer for Microsoft IT.

As CISO of Microsoft, Karen is responsible for securing Microsoft’s information assets worldwide. She joined Microsoft in early 2005, and leads policy development and deployment, IT governance, system security analysis and engineering, assessment and compliance, investigations, and the Security Center of Excellence.

Karen’s 20 years of information security experience spans the government classified and commercial sectors. Prior to joining Microsoft, Karen was the VP of IT Risk Management and CISO for AT&T Wireless/Cingular. Before joining AT&T Wireless she led the security practice for SRI Consulting and its spin-off, Atomic Tangerine, where she assisted clients with opportunity analysis for information security start-ups, led product development and security research on emerging trends, and consulted with global Fortune 500 and government customers in the U.S., Singapore and Europe. She has also served in senior information security roles at Bank of America, Boeing Defense and Space, Boeing Research and Technology, and Union Carbide Corporation. She served one term on the Computer Systems Security and Privacy Advisory Board of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The Boston SecureWorld Expo and ST&D Security Convergence seminars will take place at the Hynes Convention Center. The host hotel is the Sheraton Boston.
