HID has announced the Secure Multi-Access Ready-to-Ship (SMARTS) program

HID, which manufactures contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry, has announced the Secure Multi-Access Ready-to-Ship (SMARTS) program. The SMARTS program offers low quantities (10-999) and quick delivery of 125 kHz proximity technology cards with an embedded contact smart chip module from leading smart chip vendors. This enables small to mid-size companies to affordably purchase low quantities of multi-technology cards for demos or deployment, or for large enterprises to obtain low-cost cards for pilot programs or test applications. In addition to the ability to order low quantities, SMARTS program card order shipments have been reduced from 12 weeks to five working days.

"We learned from our customers and development partners that there was an immediate need to purchase affordable, low-volume smart cards. So, we developed the SMARTS program to address these customer needs," said Dovell Bonnett, director of Business Partners and Alliances at HID. "This program provides a fast and low-cost method for leveraging contactless physical access with contact smart card applications."

HID's Smart ISOProx II and Smart DuoProx II, are 125 kHz proximity cards that incorporate magnetic stripe and photo identification technologies with one contact smart chip from either Axalto, Datakey, Gemplus or Giesecke and Devrient (G & D). Currently eight smart chip variations of the SMARTS program cards are available.

The SMARTS program card is targeted for applications that combine contactless physical access with applications that may include vending, password management, single sign-on, biometric logon, or Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). These cards are also ideal for expanding card capabilities or for addressing new corporate, government or university market demands and they provide the ability to combine various technologies onto one card for end-user convenience and lower overall card costs.
