Honeywell Upgrades Digital Video Manager

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Honeywell announced multiple enhancements to its scalable, digital closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system, Honeywell Digital Video Manager(DVM). A component of the Enterprise Buildings(tm) Integrator (EBI) suite from Honeywell, DVM allows operators to view, record, play back and store security video clips. The new features - including audio monitoring capabilities, improved bandwidth utilization, enhanced motion detection and improved image quality - are designed to give customers more options and functionality for their investment. The announcement was made at ASIS International 2004, a seminar and exposition for security professionals.

"Honeywell has a long, rich history of helping customers maximize safety and security in their facilities through integrated security systems," said Greg Turner, director of product management at Honeywell Building Solutions. "We are constantly working to enhance our offerings, such as Digital Video Manager, to make them the most efficient, user-friendly and cost-effective products in the industry."

The new DVM release (160.2) offers audio recording and video intercom capabilities, allowing operators and security guards to view and hear what is happening at the camera's location. The TCP/IP network connection makes the addition of audio monitoring to an existing system easy and cost-effective.

In addition, DVM now supports MPEG encoding and compression, enabling it to deliver large image sizes at high frame-rates with improved image quality - while greatly reducing bandwidth and storage requirements. Because the MPEG format uses a significantly smaller bit stream, it can reduce the overall video storage requirements by 30 to 60 percent, drastically reducing video storage costs. Plus, the new version of DVM features improvements to both the standard and premium video motion detection (VMD) algorithms, making DVM more reliable, reducing the false alarm rate and making it possible to support 30 to 50 percent more cameras per camera server.

DVM 160.2 has an enhanced application programming interface (API) as well. The new DVM object model eliminates the need for expensive and complicated interconnection wiring and allows third parties to integrate their application platforms to the DVM system. Customers can now easily and cost-effectively integrate their security and automation platforms with the video management capabilities of DVM.

The new release also provides support for the AXIS 241 series streamers, which use the new ARTPEC-2 video compression hardware for higher performance and improved image quality. The AXIS series reduces streamer cost by 50 percent per video input compared to older encoding devices. The new generation of IP cameras from AXIS delivers large, high-quality images at full-frame rates, and costs 15 percent less than a fixed analog camera/streamer combination.

Along with DVM, Honeywell delivers a fully integrated, mission-critical security framework that can easily integrate with other facility functions and equipment, including HVAC, fire and energy. The resulting system reduces life-cycle costs, improves productivity, reduces risk, and improves situation response and overall security.
