Lexar's New JumpDrive TouchGuard Uses Fingerprint Recognition to Guard Data

Sept. 29, 2004
Lexar Media, Inc. introduced JumpDrive TouchGuard, a USB flash drive with an integrated biometric fingerprint sensor.

Lexar Media, Inc. (Nasdaq:LEXR), a leader in advanced digital media and accessories, today at Photokina (Hall 1.2, Booth-058), introduced JumpDrive(r) TouchGuard(tm), a USB flash drive with an integrated biometric fingerprint sensor to authenticate a user's identity and provide easy access to secured files and password protected web sites. Setting a new standard for secure portable storage, JumpDrive TouchGuard allows users to automatically login to most web sites with the swipe of a finger, eliminating the need to remember and enter usernames and passwords.

JumpDrive TouchGuard functions as a USB 2.0 hi-speed portable storage device and personal Internet gatekeeper storing and managing web favorites and up to 200 user names and passwords. Utilizing Fujitsu's compact MBF310 Sweep Sensor(tm) combined with sophisticated algorithms, the device stores and recognizes up to 10 unique fingerprints. The MBF310 Sweep Sensor was developed specifically to provide easy integration into the JumpDrive USB Flash drive. Leveraging state of the art technology, the sweep sensor software and the data encryption technology offer a full solution with an easy to use interface.

"By combining the usefulness and popularity of a JumpDrive USB flash drive with advanced biometric technology, we are solving a universal problem for everyone using the Internet -- how to secure your important data and remember the multitude of user names and passwords required to maintain a high level of security on the web," said David Klenske, director of product marketing at Lexar. "With JumpDrive TouchGuard your fingerprint is your password."

JumpDrive TouchGuard secures files with built-in encryption technology to protect confidential information from unauthorized access. The AES 256-bit encryption keeps the files secure on the JumpDrive or on the computer until decrypted by a recognized fingerprint. Lexar's use of advanced security technology provides an extremely secure device that protects users fingerprints, data and web access information without the need to remember passwords.

Once the initial authentication process is completed, the user's fingerprint, data and password are safely encrypted on the JumpDrive device. Even if the device is lost, the biometric login protects data and passwords from unauthorized access.

The portable JumpDrive TouchGuard is compatible with Windows 2000 and XP computers. Available in October at an estimated retail price of $69.99, JumpDrive TouchGuard will initially ship with a capacity of 256 MB.
