Sharp Debuts 10.4 inch Advanced Super View TFT-LCD

Oct. 25, 2005
Greater viewing angle and improved contrast in new faster response display meet industrial application design needs

CAMAS, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2005--Leveraging its display expertise and longstanding commitment to the industrial market, Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas introduces a new LCD that meets the unique performance needs of industrial product design engineers in North America. This fast-response 10.4 inch VGA TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display, LQ104V1DW02) anticipates increasing demand for higher performance displays as designers develop new and improved uses for these screens in the industrial, gaming and medical environments. The new display joins Sharp's vast, existing LCD product lineup and offers design engineers a wider range of high-quality TFT-LCD solutions for the industrial market.

With Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View technology, the new display meets this growing market's high quality design requirements, with greater viewing angle, improved contrast and faster response speeds. The clear, crisp color screen has low reflection, high color saturation. It also features low power consumption, high reliability and longevity in terms of MTBF and backlight life, standardized connection schemes and rugged durability to withstand routine handling and abuse.

This TFT-LCD module is ideally suited for multimedia devices requiring readability in a wide array of ambient lighting conditions. Applications for the 10.4 inch display include use in industrial human-machine interfaces, such as ATMs or outdoor kiosks, for mass-transit and public information, security/surveillance and factory automation, as well as medical systems applications including patient monitoring.

"As industrial device designs continue to integrate more sophisticated displays, Sharp continues to meet the growing demand for higher performance panels," said Kraig Kawada, Senior Director of Display Products at Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas. "The new 10.4 inch LCD, offers greater design flexibility and is an ideal drop-in replacement for panels presently in use. This module offers substantial improvements over displays currently on the market, demonstrating Sharp's dedication to helping designers bring new innovations to market."

Drawing on more than 20 years' experience in developing displays for the industrial and medical markets, Sharp is able to forecast and support the needs of OEMs. The LQ104V1DW02 demonstrates this insight by providing display technology that offers an optimal contrast ratio in strong-light conditions, as well as product longevity, wide operating temperatures, durability, excellent shock and vibration levels, and a low total cost of ownership.

Sharp's display portfolio ranges in size from 2.0 to 28.3 inches. Sharp also offers e-Signage displays spanning from 20.0 to 65.0 inches. The new LCD supports a growing segment of the market for industrial, gaming and medical environments that are looking for at-a-glance viewability, meaning better contrast, faster response and wider viewing cone.
