Protection One Creates State-of-the-Art Residential System for ABC Extreme Makeover Program

Oct. 14, 2004
Video security, door/window sensors, keypads, fire protection and intercom system, plus free monitoring are donated toward renovation of home of a deserving family

Protection One security professionals recently teamed with the designers and crew of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to assist with the redesign and renovation of the homes of several deserving families.

While details about the families who were selected to receive assistance by the TV show cannot be shared before their stories are aired, Protection One worked with the Extreme Makeover teams to identify the special needs of the families and installed fully integrated, electronic security and life safety systems to help protect the families, their new homes and possessions.

Systems and services donated by Protection One have included:

-- door and window sensors to detect break-ins or children who wander outside unattended;
-- security keypads that allow the families to summon medical or police assistance with the touch of one button;
-- fire detectors monitored by Protection One's monitoring specialists so the fire department can be called even if the families can't get to the phone during an emergency;
-- intercom systems to help identify visitors from the safety of inside the home;
-- surveillance systems, which project live video on the families' television sets or other monitors and allow the parents to keep an eye on children playing outside or to monitor children inside the home who have special medical needs;
-- additional video applications that provide video verification of an alarm should an emergency occur and that allow the parents to receive video snapshots via email so they can view events at their homes while they are at work, such as when their children arrive safely home from school. (This application was donated in conjunction with Protection One's product supplier, OZVision.); and
-- multi-year monitoring of the security systems, which means Protection One's dispatchers are available to the families around the clock.

"Our security products and services help protect families from much more than the threat of a break in. We were honored to work with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in helping to improve the lives of these deserving families and were pleased to offer them products and services that provide peace of mind during their everyday activities as well as any emergencies that may occur," said Richard Ginsburg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Protection One.

As a leader in the security industry, protecting more than a million homes and businesses, Protection One technicians were able to apply the expertise they have gained from working with individual families, business owners, developers, and contractors across the United States to tackle the intense home makeover projects. The Protection One teams worked around and with dozens of contractors, vendors and designers to complete the home renovations within seven days.

At this time, Protection One has assisted in four renovations, which will air this fall. (Tune in to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Sundays at 8/7 central on ABC.)
