CBORD solutions recognized by NACCU

Ithaca, New York -  CBORD, the leading provider of campus card and integrated security software and hardware solutions to colleges and universities, today announces that Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), in Chicago, IL, recently received the 2013 Innovative Technology award from the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU). This award recognizes an institution that has introduced a unique, technology-based solution on campus. IIT recently implemented several new mobile-enabled security solutions for door access to better serve its students and staff using CBORD’s industry leading CS Access solution.

Secure Access Control with Smartphone Application, Text

IIT’s latest offerings empower students to access their residence hall rooms and other doors by simply opening a smartphone application (CBORD Mobile ID™) or sending a text message (“Open MyDoor”). Both mobile access solutions are managed by CBORD’s CS Access, which is designed to serve today’s students by leveraging the security and convenience of their devices of choice—their phones.

In addition to student access, staff can be granted temporary, elevated door access privileges using the “MasterKey” text-enabled feature (e.g., when a maintenance worker needs temporary access to a suite to fix a leaking faucet). The privilege elevation is only granted when pre-approved by management, and all occupants of the room or suite receive notification of the access. This innovative solution has resulted in significant security improvements and cost savings at IIT, drastically reducing the need for costly and risky metal master keys.

Greg Makowski, systems administrator and software engineer at IIT, said, “It is an honor for the HawkCard program to be recognized for implementing cutting-edge, integrated solutions that really drive student satisfaction and enhance security. Many of these developments with CBORD came as a result of extensive research and feedback from our campus community, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results.”

“We are glad that IIT has been recognized with this prestigious award from NACCU. The institution has always listened to the evolving needs of its students and responded with innovations that satisfy those needs without sacrificing security,” said Cindy McCall, vice president of marketing at CBORD. “We have been proud to serve IIT for many years, and we look forward to an exciting future.”

The NACCU Innovative Technology Award was presented during the 20th Annual NACCU Conference in Orlando, a four-day event attracting professionals from the national and international campus card community.
