Company's applicator to locate chemical contamination over large areas for Agentase Disclosure Spray

PORTLAND, OR (June 22, 2012) – FLIR Systems, Inc.  - FLIR Systems is pleased to announce the launch of the VIPER Man-portable Applicator for the Agentase Disclosure Spray.

The Viper Applicator was specifically co-developed by FLIR and Intelagard, Inc. to provide a smaller, man-portable mobile system capable of being towed as a roller board device or being worn as a backpack during use. The Viper provides flexibility for the mission, whether for small-to-intermediate scale decontamination or for reconnaissance. Consumables are in disposable one gallon bags and provide enough formulation to rapidly cover three to four HMMWV.

The Agentase Disclosure Spray (ADS), based on FLIR Systems enzyme technology, was developed in direct response to user requests for a contamination indicator/decontamination assurance spray to visually locate chemical agent contamination over large areas. Two ADS formulations are available, one that detects both G- &V-series nerve agents as well as a second formulation that detects the Sulfur Mustard blister agent.

The disclosure spray has the following performance benefits that distinguish it from other products:

  • Unprecedented sensitivity (sub-µg) levels of detection that existing sensors cannot match
  • Ability to detect low volatility compounds directly on surfaces that many electronic sensors can miss
  • Ability to map contamination over wide areas and to verify that effective decontamination has been performed
  • Enables the warfighter to perform decontamination with minimal impact on operational tempo

The Agentase Disclosure Spray has utility for both decontamination and reconnaissance,” said Jeremy Walker, Manager of Enzyme Technology Programs, FLIR Systems.” Agentase Disclosure Spray enables the warfighter to identify chemical agent contamination and effectively perform decontamination with minimal use of water, decontaminant and personnel resources. Further, the Agentase Disclosure Spray can be applied after the final rinse to assure that the agent has been effectively removed and that the risk to the warfighter has been eliminated. For reconnaissance, Agentase Disclosure Spray can be used for Sensitive Site Assessment, wherein in can be used to investigate labs or materials to determine whether agent is present, and can be used for mapping contaminated areas to establish the safe perimeter for operations by users such as Chemical Companies and WMD Civilian Support Teams.”
