Power and surge protection technology offers a cost-effective and reliable solution in compact size

RALEIGH, N.C. …Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton today announced the release of the new Eaton 5S battery backup in North America, a highly efficient, reliable power protection and surge protection device that is integrated with Eaton’s UPS Companion power protection software. The 5S features a LCD management screen and is specifically designed to protect small office or home office (SOHO) equipment, desktop computers, networked workstations and home entertainment systems against damaging and costly power disturbances.

Affordable and highly efficient, the feature-rich 5S includes EcoControl power outlets that can control shutdown of accessory devices to yield an energy savings of up to 30 percent. The 5S also provides surge protection for up to 10 devices, including five battery backup receptacles, and devices connected to data lines.

The 5S is paired with Eaton’s UPS Companion software, allowing users to quickly and easily manage and monitor all of the power devices on a network. The software is designed to conduct a safe and graceful shutdown of powered devices when an extended power outage occurs.

“The 5S delivers advanced features typically only found at a higher price point to safeguard electronic investments and prevent the loss of critical data,” said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division, Eaton. “With advanced power protection software, an energy management display and EcoControl technology, the 5S provides a sustainable option for power protection in an affordable, compact package that is ideal for a wide range of consumer and business applications.”

The 5S is ready to operate out of the box, with USB connectivity for Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems. The sleek, black glossy design of the 5S complements modern office environments and is available in convenient, tower desktop models.

In spite of their compact size, the 5S units pack enough battery power to keep typical PCs running for 20 to 45 minutes, depending on model and configuration, allowing plenty of time to operate through most power disturbances or to conduct an orderly shutdown during a prolonged blackout.

The 5S units with user-replaceable batteries and an unmatched three-year warranty are available now in North America.
