Telos Awards Viisage, a Division of L-1 Identity Solutions, $25 Million Contract

Sept. 13, 2006
Common Access Card Program Continues to Set Standards for Smart Card Programs Worldwide

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2006--L-1 Identity Solutions (NYSE: ID), a leading provider of advanced technology identity solutions, today announced that it has received a new five-year $25 million award to continue to support the production of secure, smart credentials as part of the Common Access Card (CAC) program for the United States Department of Defense (DoD). The CAC program, which has more than three million users across the DoD, is widely regarded as the largest and most advanced use of smart cards and has been recognized with major industry awards.

Viisage received the order through Telos Corporation, one of the support contractors to the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), the organization inside the DoD responsible for implementation of the CAC program. The contract calls for additional highly secure products for the ongoing production of the CAC secure identification cards. First implemented in 2004, this solution employs what is believed to be the most advanced, secure and counterfeit-resistant card printing system available, including pigment ink technology, which resists fading of images and barcodes even under the most severe conditions.

The CAC program smart card is used to authenticate the identity and affiliation of DoD active duty military personnel, the Selected Reserve, DoD civilian employees, and selected contractors, granting them varying privileges such as physical access to secure areas and logical access to the DoD's computer networks.

"This multi-year award for the CAC program is another testament to the value we have delivered to our partners Telos and the DoD over the past few years. With the advent of HSPD-12, we believe all Federal agencies will be moving to expanded use of biometrics and smart cards. Moving forward, we are excited to continue supporting both organizations on this strategic program that continues to set the standard for credentialing programs," said Jim Ebzery, President of L-1's Viisage Division.
