Facial recognition would provide extra security to cell phones, small electronic devices

Omron has announced that it is developing the OKAO Vision face recognition sensor, to provide face recognition security on cell phones, reports slashphone.com. It is currently impossible for mobile phones to handle face recognition due to the complex processing and large amount of memory needed. Omron said that it will use its own algorithm to accelerate processing while maintaining high accuracy. Before using a camera phone, the person will have to face the camera and take a picture. The system will compare your face and the registered data. The whole process can be completed in one second. Future applications could include authorizing e-mail or cash transactions.
