Motorola, Inc. (MOT) announced that the Hellenic Police, the national police force in Greece under the Ministry of Public Order, has installed Motorola's Printrak Biometrics Identification Solution (BIS) to help identify, process and manage individuals who have committed a crime.
The Printrak BIS is a state-of-the art system that enables automated fingerprint and palmprint matching for fast and accurate suspect identification, which is designed to save the government agency valuable time and resources. The Hellenic Police protect a population of approximately 10.6 million people. The Printrak BIS was installed in Athens, Greece with remote sites in the cities of Patras, Piraeus, and Thessaloniki. The solution provides information sharing between different agencies and will ensure higher data integrity and consistency across the country in order to more easily identify criminals.
The new system provides updated matching algorithms, such as Motorola's gray-scale matcher, which has already improved matching by 12 percent. The Motorola Printrak BIS also incorporates the latest technology available in the industry, such the recently released Oracle 10g database and XML.
