15 communities will be evaluated for vulnerabilties; study will also assess emergency responses

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The next 15 Kentucky communities to get homeland security surveys were announced Monday by Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

The community preparedness work involves examining public facilities, utilities, schools and other potentially vulnerable areas.

Fletcher said the surveys are also useful for local emergency personnel in responding to natural disasters and other events.

Seven communities were surveyed in 2003. The 15 selected for this year are Ashland, Barbourville, Carrollton, Dayton, Fort Wright, Jamestown, Leitchfield, Manchester, Mayfield, Maysville, Murray, Owensboro, Prestonsburg, Richmond and Springfield.
