Town of Moore, Okla., plans new fire station

Dec. 23, 2008
$3.9 million project will include station and fire department administration offices

MOORE - Construction on the new Fire Station 1 could begin sometime next month, city officials said.

On Monday, the Moore City Council approved bids totalling about $3.9 million for the project.

Fire Station 1 will be at 2300 Fritts Blvd., and the fire department's administration offices will be housed there, Fire Chief Charles Stephens said.

Building is expected to be finished in March 2010.

The existing Fire Station 1 location will be used for the dispatchers and the police department.

Stephens said other fire stations will be moved later to put a station in each of the city's quadrants.

Fire Station 2 will remain at 725 NW 12, but it will be renovated.

Fire Station 3 will be moved to SE 34 and Sunnylane Road, and Station 4 will move to NE 12 and Bryant Avenue.

The project is being funded by a half-cent sales tax increase approved by voters in November 2006.
