MPT500 gives merchants contactless payment capabilities

IRVINE, Calif., November 5, 2008 – HID Global, the trusted leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity, today announced that its contactless HF Multi ISO Reader is an integral component of Thyron Systems’ MPT500, the first mobile payment terminal to achieve MasterCard PayPass certification. With this certification, the MPT500 enables mobile merchants to take advantage of the speed and convenience of contactless payments with knowledge that the terminal fully complies with strong security rules.

The portable MPT500 terminal enables merchants to accept card payments in locations away from traditional landline communication, providing a fast, secure and convenient alternative to low-value cash purchases. The units connect to the banking network over GPRS mobile data communication, which is an always on/always ready network that can deliver authorization times at least three times faster than conventional phone-line-based terminals.

"With their ease of connectivity and design simplicity, HID’s HF Multi ISO Readers are very easy to integrate, even into very compact mobile designs like the Thyron MPT500," said Stefan Trautner, director integration cashless payment, HID Global. "More importantly, these HID Readers are MasterCard PayPass ready, which helps simplify the certification process for contactless payment terminal integrators and manufacturers."

The HID HF Multi ISO Readers are also fully interoperable, supporting the major industry standards, including ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693, ISO 18000-3, NFC and EPC. In addition, the readers are optimized for maximum data throughput rates on both the air and host interface, enabling fast transaction speeds and provide integrated SAM support to maximize security between the card, reader and host.
