Cardinal Central Station Implements Petards UVMS to Support Personal Safety and Homeland Security Initiatives

Las Vegas, Nev. (ASIS Booth 3577) - September 24, 2007 - Petards, Inc. (, a leading developer of advanced surveillance systems, today announced that its Universal Video Management System (UVMS) is now in use in several employee parking lots at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J. The Petards UVMS was selected by Cardinal Central Station to provide video surveillance for parking lots operated by Secure Parking Systems, the sister company to Cardinal Central Station, because the solution offers superior image quality and retrieval capabilities, as well as the ability to scale with their existing infrastructure investments.

"The Petards UVMS has significantly improved our security performance and enabled us to quickly respond to a number of incidents, including a recent car fire in one of our lots," said Joe Kolakowski, director of Cardinal Central Station. "Not only is the Petards solution one of the easiest to implement and train our employees on, it is incredibly robust and reliable. We are able to view multiple video feeds at once, remotely monitor our facilities, and retrieve and zoom in on recorded content."

Cardinal Central Station is using the Petards UVMS in four parking lots that are reserved for employees of Continental Airlines, United Airlines, British Airways and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The parking lots span 55 acres with space for 8,250 vehicles. Live video surveillance monitoring on these lots is conducted 24x7 in order to ensure safety of employees coming to and from work, protect personal property, prevent unauthorized access to the facility and identify any potential homeland security threats.

Petards UVMS's open architecture made it possible to preserve Cardinal Central Station's previous investments in surveillance cameras. Approximately 105 cameras are now in operation across the four parking lots, including existing analog devices and newly implemented digital equipment. The Petards system also ensures that Cardinal Central Station is able to record all video content in digital format, even in three of four parking lots where existing analog cameras are being used as the transition to IP cameras occurs. Petards has installed remote network encoders in the lots served by analog cameras, which enables all video signals to be converted to digital and then sent over either a landline or across wireless networks to the central UVMS video server.

"With the Newark airport installation, Petards is reinforcing the value of its cutting-edge solutions for video surveillance in the transportation sector, including the use of network encoders in remote lots and wireless video relays that serve the airport perimeter where cabling was not feasible," said Frank Baitman, president of Petards, Inc. "With Petards open platform, we were able to help Cardinal Central Station cost-effectively implement a solution that utilized their existing analog equipment while significantly improving image quality and providing advanced surveillance capabilities."
