Installing companies may want to look through their vehicle records soon if they're using Ford vans or pick-up trucks for their installers.
Ford has recalled 1.2 million vehicles for a defective design on the cruise control system that could lead to cruise control failure and possibly fire. The incidents, while rare, affect a number of vehicles used in commercial operations.
Specifically, the recall includes 1994 to 1996 Econoline vans, a popular vehicle for electrical and security installers, as well as the company's 1996 to 2002 heavier duty E-450 vans. If you're using some of Ford's pick-ups, you may also make note. Full-size F-250 to F-550 pick-ups from model years 1994 to 2002 are also affected.
Also affected were some of the company's SUVs. A previous recall had affected other Ford full-size vehicles, including F-150 and F-250 trucks.
The defective switch has not been used since 2004.
