Extended capabilities ensure FIPS 201 compliance

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 18, 2007 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that support has been added to the Vindicator V5 ACS Access Control Server for multi-technology readers from both Honeywell and BridgePoint Systems.

The OmniAssure and BridgePoint readers are fully compliant with the Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201 (FIPS 201). Honeywell’s OmniAssure readers support many credential formats including Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), Personal Identity Verification (PIV II) and HID Prox, DESFire, MiFare Classic. BridgePoint’s smart credential reader supports many government-issued smart card formats, such as the Department of Defense Common Access Credentials (DoD CAC), TWIC and PIV.

Since October 2006, all government employees and contractors have been required to carry a common identification credential. However, many of the cards currently in use are not being leveraged for physical access control purposes, even though the cards themselves may support the technology. The BridgePoint readers can be used to fully exploit the access control functionality of existing CAC cards. The reader interface enables Vindicator users at facilities of any size to take the first steps toward complying with federal mandates relating to identity management, and it helps protect their access control solutions against early obsolescence as government standards for compliance evolve.

"The enhanced functionality of this new support means our customers can now be better prepared to comply with the federally-mandated requirements of smart cards," said Beth Thomas, senior product manager, convergence, Honeywell. “OmniAssure readers make it effortless for Vindicator customers to transition from existing 125 kHz proximity cards to smart card technologies."

"BridgePoint has been providing smart card readers longer than any other domestic firm and we have more than 10,000 readers installed across the United States," said Tom Corder, president and CEO of BridgePoint Systems, Inc. “BridgePoint readers are known for their quality and advanced features, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to team with Honeywell."

Honeywell's Vindicator Security Solutions provides intrusion detection, access control, and video surveillance and assessment that meet the demanding requirements of some of the world’s most challenging security applications, such as military installations, federal and state government sites, correctional institutions, commercial facilities, and ports and other vital infrastructures. The Vindicator V5 ACS Server, paired with the new smart card readers, provides a solution for the heightened requirements of access control at mission-critical facilities.
