Home automation boom continues at ISC West

Technology is building momentum

Home automation technologies may have received a huge amount of headlines at the recent Consumer Electronics Show, but, when it comes to security-related technology, ISC West was certainly not far behind the giant consumer show.

I caught up with a variety of vendors that were featuring home automation products in my travels at ISC West, and the depth and breadth of different products are evolving and growing.

“[The impact of home automation] is massive and industry changing,” Tyco Security Products’ Tim Myers told me. When you go to CES, it is really full blown, and here it’s a little behind that in terms of adoption, but changing the mentality of dealers takes time.”

Still, vendors are giving dealers a variety of technology options to ease that adoption. I saw a full line of home automation products at booth such as Honeywell, Linear, Tyco’s DSC, ADT, Telguard, Alarm.com and more.

ADT, in fact, announced its home automation advances at CES itself.

“The market is becoming very competitive,” confirms Honeywell’s Ralph Maniscalco. “Making it easier for the installers to install and the end-users to use is the trick.”
