Chicago O'Hare to Receive Additional $21.9 Million in Security Funds
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rear Adm. David M. Stone, USN (Ret.), Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), today announced the agency is providing an additional $21.9 million for security systems to handle growing passenger traffic at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
TSA provided the additional funding through an Other Transactional Agreement (OTA). The City of Chicago will use the money to improve the existing baggage screening systems at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 at O'Hare.
In July, TSA signed an agreement for $37.5 million. This new agreement increases the federal commitment for O'Hare to $59.4 million.
"TSA continues to partner with the City of Chicago to increase capacity for meeting passenger volume and to maintain the highest security standards for O'Hare airport," Admiral Stone said. "This work will lead to more efficient baggage screening -- serving security and improving customer service."
TSA continues to work with Congress and the aviation community to address growing capacity requirements and deploy permanent baggage screening solutions at the nation's airports.
