ASIS to Aid ISO in Developing Security Standards

Security leadership association granted liaison status with standards organization

ISO, the International Organization of Standardization, has taken a key interest in ASIS International. ISO recently granted ASIS liaison status with the voluntary standards organization.

As such, ASIS will be able to provide commentary on developing standards, which are entirely voluntary, but which have been adopted in many industries as de facto best practices and requirements.

Mark Geraci, CPP, said he was encouraged to see the 35,000-member security organization become a recognized liaison with ISO, adding that the recognition gives ASIS "significant input into security-related global standards that will have an ongoing impact on the profession."

The liaison status will operate primarily through the ASIS International Commission on Standards and Guidelines.
