Butlin named to Canada's Who's Who

Co-founder of Security Partners' Forum has been an influential figure in interational securitiy

In an industry dominated by her male counterparts, Canadian security professional Bonnie Butlin has emerged onto the international scene over the last five years as a trendsetter and respected thought leader. As a result of her contributions across Canada and across the globe, Bonnie has received numerous international awards and accolades including her most recent honor – being named to the Canadian Who’s Who for 2017. 

Canadian Who's Who is a reference publication published and distributed annually by Grey House Publishing Canada containing concise biographical information about 13,000 notable Canadians. Biographies are chosen on merit alone. Those listed are selected because of the positions they hold in Canadian society, or because of the contribution they have made to life in Canada. Included are outstanding Canadians from business, academia, politics, sports, the arts, and sciences.

Bonnie is the co-founder of the Security Partners’ Forum (SPF), the first-of-its-kind agile network of security professionals, with a global footprint. She is also the Founder and International Coordinator of the Women in Security and Resilience Alliance. WISECRA is a non-hierarchical “plug-and-play” construct that brings together various women in security and resilience associations/organizations from across the globe to network and share best practices. 

In 2016 Bonnie was appointed the National Coordinator and Chair of the National Council for the Canadian Cybersecurity Alliance.  She serves as the Vice-Chair of The Infrastructure Security Partnership (TISP)’s Public-Private Collaboration Committee (PPCC), based in Alexandria, VA. Public-Private Collaboration Committee seeks strategic partnerships and relationships to integrate new ideas on the topics of security and resilience from a broad range of stakeholders. The committee collaborates on issues and leverages the collective technical expertise and research and development capabilities of the TISP membership - covering all areas, including planning, design, and construction. The committee is responsible for the activities to achieve TISP Strategic Goal 2.

 In addition to being named to Canadian Who’s who, Bonnie has received numerous accolades and awards since 2013 including:

  • Being named to Esprit de Corps Magazine’s “Women in Defence” list for 2016;
  • Finalist for the 2015 Executive Women’s Forum’s Women of Influence (WOI) Award (Private Solutions Provider category);  
  • Became the first Canadian female security professional to be named as a recipient of Professional Security Magazine's 2015 Women in Security Awards (Security Manager Category);
  • Named to Vanguard Magazine’s “People in Defense” list, which put her alongside some of Canada’s elite defense and security professionals.
  • Received the Compass Award (2015) presented by CSO media for leadership achievement in the security field.
  • Inducted into the International Women in Homeland Security and Emergency Management Hall of Fame in 2014; and

Her diverse background in the fields of defense, intelligence, and security provide a well-rounded approach to her security perspective.  Butlin was also the sole author of a commissioned study for the Federal Court of Canada on National Security and the Administration of Justice. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs.
