Smith Micro Software Talks Video Mobility

Sept. 1, 2011

Video is hot and as the security industry continuing to ride its tails, dealers and integrators need to understand how the mobile solutions and services they offer transcend across the networks available; and target their approach in the reliability of those solutions and services that they offer their customer.

If they are going to mobilize certain solutions, they have to question how a device with wireless capabilities will work over 3G? Over 4G? Over Wi-Fi?,” explained Sunil Marolia, vice president of Product Management, Smith Micro Software, Aliso Viejo, Calif.  “While they may be creating services that are great for a single device which is popular, they can’t assume they are going to have 4G or other high-bandwidth networks as they may not have that. This could affect whatever product or service they are offering.”

An industry leader in the mobile space, Smith Micro’s Vidio platform is an all-in-one video transcoding and streaming solution that can deliver live data to the Web or any Web-enabled device. The solution is one that could help alleviate concerns of dealers or integrators that want to deliver additional services for a span of developing mobile devices and those that are currently available.

“There are more tablets than iPads right now but Android is coming up very quickly,” Maroilia confirmed. “We’re seeing a lot of differentiation there and that is going to cause some fragmentation.” He confirmed that dealers and integrators and others in the security space have to think of how they will be able to support existing devices as well as emerging devices across heterogeneous networks. “Our video solution is something they could use that could potentially alleviate that concern,” he confirmed. Additional features of the Vidio platform include adaptive streaming; it is scalable up to 4500 HTTP/HTTPS sessions; multi-screen convergence; real-time ad insertion; full support for all Apple mobile devices; and extensive analytics and reporting.
