App turns smartphones into a personal safety device

For those of you who enjoy watching entrepreneurial hopefuls pitch their ideas on ABC’s "Shark Tank," there will be a unique security angle to this week’s episode.

Phil Reitnour, founder and CEO of EmergenSee, an app that turns mobile devices into personal emergency systems, will be appearing on the show seeking an infusion of capital from one of the show’s celebrity investors.

The company’s technology turns any smartphone into a personal safety device that instantly streams live video, audio and GPS location and movements to pre-selected contacts or to a professional monitoring center.

EmergenSee, which is available as a free download to anyone, also offers 24/7 professional monitoring as an in-app purchase for individuals and families. With just a tap, selected contacts can immediately see, hear, and follow an incident as it unfolds, allowing responders to effectively react to the situation.

"EmergenSee is committed to providing all people with the best possible personal security solution for incredibly fast and easy-to-use smart technology that is literally in the palm of your hands," Reitnour said.

To see Reitnour’s appearance on the show, tune into ABC on Friday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
