Alarm.com introduced its new Video Intercom Mobile Directory, billed as a cost-effective solution designed to replace traditional intercom systems in multi-tenant buildings.
The new offering — available through Alarm.com and PointCentral service provider partners — allows visitors to use their own smartphones to access a building’s tenant directory. By scanning a QR code at a communal intercom hub, users can browse the directory and initiate a secure video call directly with a resident or tenant. Occupants can respond, speak with the visitor and unlock the door remotely via the Alarm.com video intercom app.
Alarm.com said the Video Intercom Mobile Directory can be deployed with minimal hardware — in many cases merely activating existing Alarm.com video doorbells or access control equipment — avoiding the need for in-unit intercom installs. Setup is meant to be straightforward: property managers can configure custom directories, upload branding and generate QR codes within minutes.
The company highlighted a broad range of use cases for the system: shared office buildings, multifamily apartments and condominiums. Service providers such as cleaners, maintenance staff or pet sitters can also be granted monitored or time-bound access without compromising building security.
According to Alarm.com the system integrates with third-party access readers for flexibility and uses its professionally installed, professionally monitored infrastructure to support reliable performance. The Video Intercom Mobile Directory is already available across North America and select international markets.
