ALCEA, the brand formerly known as ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions - Critical Infrastructure, will feature two superior high security locking solutions in booth 1553 at the ITS American Conference & Expo. The event takes place April 22-25 at the Phoenix Convention Center.
“We safeguard vital infrastructure globally, providing total security solutions for market segments such as the transportation industry,” stated Jerry Burhans, managing director of ALCEA, ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions.
“With ALCEA, you now have a partner that can lead cross-collaboration and provide access to a comprehensive suite of asset management systems. We have the experience and expertise to help you with security hardware, locks and devices, access control, and key management systems. These solutions can be customized, digitalized, and integrated to meet your specific requirements, enhancing both security and operational efficiency.”
One California group using the 75481 series traffic lock as a drop-in replacement to upgrade and physically secure their Intelligent Transportation System traffic control cabinets is the Department of Transportation for the City of San Jose. Working with Econolite, ALCEA’s system integrator partner, a scheduled year-long program to install the enclosure lock on 2,000 cabinets at about 1,000 intersections may be completed sooner than expected by mid-2024.
“ALCEA offered more than we asked for in terms of flexibility, plus the whole validity process and permission sets in the management software,” recalled Darren Thai, an associate engineer with the City of San Jose’s Department of Transportation. “We are definitely happy and impressed with how things have progressed.”
Using both mechanical and electromechanical lock cylinders at different access points throughout the city saved a significant amount of money. The mechanical series contains ABLOY’s unique high security cylinder. The electromechanical option supports electronic access control, key tracking, and audit trails with ABLOY’s CLIQ Web Manager software. Fewer than half of the ITS cabinets for this project are situated at high priority sites that require more expensive digital locks.
“We determined the most important thing was to secure our traffic signal cabinets because the expensive technology inside those enclosures requires regular servicing,” said Thai. “We use the mechanical locks because they are very secure, and we can get pretty creative with setting the permissions and validity periods. The installations were easy to do. We did not have to modify the cabinet in any way, and it took about 10 minutes to remove the old lock and install the new one. That made it very convenient.”
The CI Series line of key cabinets is an integrated solution that secures access and provides audit trails on locking hardware and keys within security perimeters. These cabinets can be customized for a range of facility applications from 32 to 288 keys per cabinet, and can easily be expanded to more than 2,000 total keys.
Available as either a wall-mount or free-standing option, the cabinets are manufactured with 16-gauge steel construction to support heavy use. Features include touchscreen controls, web-based administration, customized reporting, digital photo capture of all access, and email SMS alerts. Also available is multiple access options (PIN, Biometric, Proximity Cards), and enhanced security and theft deterrence with ABLOY’s SO500 puck lock and either ABLOY PROTEC2 or electromechanical CLIQ cylinders.
“There is a big upside in terms of cost savings with these hybrid security solutions,” said Burhans. “We are looking forward to showing conference attendees how these affordable locks can upgrade the security of their operations.”
