Motorola Invests in A4Vision

Investment also signals commercial technology relationship between companies

A4Vision Inc, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company that provides identification software and 3D facial imaging products and technology, has secured funding from Motorola Ventures,

Motorola Ventures, the venture capital division of Motorola Inc., has invested an undisclosed amount in A4Vision, and the investment also herald a commercial relationship between the two companies

Motorola's Government and Enterprise Mobility Solutions (GEMS) business is expected to use A4Vision's 3-D facial biometrics technology in the company's products marketed primarily to the public safety and government operations sectors

"A4Vision's technology fits Motorola Venture's investment profile and offers cutting-edge biometric products and solutions that will help strengthen Motorola's position within the biometric market place," said Warren Holtsberg, corporate vice president, equity investments for Motorola Ventures in a prepared statement.

Just a few years ago, in November 200, Motorola moved into the world of biometrics with the acquision of Printrak International by Motorola GEMS.

A4Vision, a relative newcomer to the biometrics marketplace, has been delivering its products, which are used in access control for both physical access and network access as well as for identity verification, since October 2003.
