dormakaba has acquired the operating businesses of Azure Access Technology and ADME, known as Apollo Security, as the company looks to expand its position in the U.S. access control market.
The transaction, which was signed and closed Aug. 14, includes Azure Access, a supplier of adaptable electronic access control hardware, and Apollo Security, a developer and manufacturer of access control and integrated security systems. Financial terms and other details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2019 and based in Newport Beach, California, Azure Access develops electronic access control hardware for the U.S. commercial market. Its open-architecture controller platform is designed for original equipment manufacturers and software providers, allowing for integration and customization.
Apollo Security is also based in Newport Beach and develops and manufactures access control and integrated security systems. Together, the two businesses employ approximately 30 people and serve access control companies worldwide.
Azure Access’ technology enables software organizations to deploy their own controller panels and accessories and introduce new features to customers. According to dormakaba, the open and adaptable platform is intended to help partners bring access control solutions to market more quickly and efficiently. Apollo Security adds an established installed base and industry recognition to the offering.
dormakaba CEO Till Reuter said the acquisition is intended to accelerate the development of next-generation access control solutions while advancing the company’s components strategy in the U.S.
“Historically, dormakaba has mainly offered engineered solutions as a bundle,” Reuter said. “Going forward, we will strengthen our open component portfolio – including locks, readers, and controllers – to OEM partners, a customer segment we are now well positioned to support.”
The strategy gives dormakaba an opportunity to offer individual components to OEM partners in addition to its engineered solutions. Reuter said the approach creates “a new go-to-market opportunity for us to expand our position.”
Evan Zinger, executive vice president of Azure Access and Apollo Security, said joining dormakaba will provide additional resources to expand the platform’s reach and advance its product roadmap.
“Industry leaders have long acknowledged the strength of our solution, and this acquisition eliminates the remaining scale and adoption barriers, positioning us to establish enterprise adoption and global reach,” Zinger said.
dormakaba is headquartered in Rümlang, Switzerland and employs more than 15,000 people worldwide. The company provides access products, solutions and services to customers in more than 130 countries.
