Keyscan launches new smartcard reader

K-Smart Mifare features 'anti-tamper' capabilities
Dec. 22, 2008

Whitby, Ontario, December 19, 2008 – Adding to its impressive lineup of readers, Keyscan Inc. today announced that it has introduced the K-Smart Mifare (13.56 MHz) contactless smartcard reader. The K-Smart incorporates a number of innovative design features, like its ingenious electronic "heartbeat." If the Keyscan access control system fails to detect the heartbeat because of a wiring fault or reader damage, an alarm condition is triggered allowing for a rapid investigation. As an added enhancement for critical or sensitive areas, the K-Smart also has an "anti-tamper" capability when connected with an optional anti-tamper switch. It’s the ultra-secure reader.

The K-Smart supports Keyscan’s K-Secure contactless Mifare smartcards with Max Secure – the card/reader encryption technology that offers the highest level of card security available. The K-Smart also supports ISO 14443 Mifare non-proprietary contactless smart cards reading the card serial number (CSN) for added versatility.

With its electronics protected in a durable epoxy potting, the compact, highly reliable K-Smart is equally suited to indoor or outdoor use, even in the harshest weather conditions. And its all-in-one design offers mullion or single-gang mounting options.
