Technology and management firm OKed to serve as integration partner for government agencies meeting HSPD-12 and FIPS 201 requirements

MCLEAN, Va., July 31 -- BearingPoint, Inc. (NYSE:BE), a leading global management and technology consulting firm, today announced that it has been named a "Qualified HSPD-12 System Integration Service Provider" by GSA, qualified to provide end-to-end HSPD-12 and FIPS 201 System Integration Services for federal agencies.

Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 is a presidential mandate outlining common identification card and identity systems standards for federal employees and contractors. HSPD-12 directs the implementation of a new standardized identification and credentialing process, which is designed to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect the personal privacy of those issued government identification. FIPS 201 (Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201, outlines the technology standards to meet the technical requirements of HSPD-12.

"The government-wide transition to new identity standards may seem a daunting and complex project for agencies," said Tom DeGarmo, senior vice president of BearingPoint's Public Services Civilian practice. "BearingPoint has a long history of deploying successful, leading-edge identity management programs on schedule and on budget, and we believe our unique skills and experience in these projects will prove helpful as agencies look for partners to assist in their HSPD-12 implementation programs."

BearingPoint has nearly a decade of experience in key security and identity management programs ranging from the Defense Department's Common Access Card to the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Worker Identification Credential prototype program -- the first identity card program deployed to date that aligns closely with the HSPD-12 and FIPS 201 standards.

The company recently launched a new "technology showroom" in the Washington, D.C. suburbs to display new BearingPoint solutions supporting secure ID technologies. BearingPoint's Global Security Identity Management Center of Excellence allows government agencies to see, touch and experience live examples of many new identity management systems and solutions that can allow organizations to comply with stringent new government regulations and programs such as HSPD-12.

Any government organization with interest in advanced identity management technologies is welcome to arrange a visit to the center by sending an email to [email protected]. For more information on BearingPoint's Security & Identity Management practice, visit
