HID is enhancing its FARGO DTC ID card printer portfolio with hardware, printing quality, security and maintenance improvements intended to help organizations issue credentials faster while reducing IT support requirements and accommodating future growth.
The updates span the DTC1250e, DTC4500e and DTC1500 models. The printers serve organizations including schools, healthcare systems, government offices and corporate campuses that need to produce professional-quality identification cards while meeting evolving security requirements.
The enhanced printers feature updated hardware and electronics platforms for faster printing, along with support for high-capacity ribbons to reduce reloads and interruptions during credential issuance. These improvements are intended to increase productivity for organizations that print large volumes of ID cards.
“We’ve been doing this a long time. For more than three decades, organizations have trusted us to power their ID badging programs,” said Apryl Erickson, vice president and head of FARGO. “With thousands of printers in the field worldwide, we’re excited to build on that legacy by delivering enhanced solutions that provide greater value to our end users and support their mission-critical issuance processes.”
The printers also offer 300 x 600 dpi resolution, an enhanced color profile and adjustable K-panel printing to improve card appearance, text clarity, logo definition and color accuracy.
For security, all three DTC printer models incorporate enhanced AES-256-GCM encryption and resin scramble data protection. The DTC1500 and DTC4500e also include a built-in, customizable watermark overlay at no additional cost.
HID has added tools to simplify printer maintenance and reduce downtime. An integrated diagnostic utility and Color Assist tool are now available directly through the printer driver, allowing operators to identify and resolve common issues without contacting support. An optional OLED SmartScreen for the DTC1250e further simplifies operation for staff without technical expertise.
The enhanced printers include three-year product warranties, ongoing printer health monitoring and engineering intended to support efficient energy use.
Organizations can also expand their credentialing capabilities as needs change. The DTC printer portfolio offers field-upgradable dual-side printing and encoding options, allowing users to add capabilities without purchasing new base hardware.
The enhancements build on more than 30 years of DTC printing expertise and integrate with HID’s broader access control and identity management ecosystem. The DTC1500 and DTC4500e are also compatible with FARGO Connect, a secure, cloud-based card printing platform that provides real-time fleet visibility.
The enhanced DTC printer portfolio is commercially available now, with product availability varying by model and region. Enhanced DTC1250e and DTC4500e printers are slated to become available in late October or early November, depending on the region. Enhanced DTC1500 units are expected to follow later in the fourth quarter of 2026.
FARGO printers are available through HID’s partner and distributor network.
