TOKYO (Nikkei) -- Hitachi - Omron Terminal Solutions Corp. announced that next spring it will start selling ATMs to city and regional banks that are equipped with a finger vein biometric identification system.

More and more products featuring biometric technology have been launched recently. And Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and other institutions have already decided to introduce Fujitsu Ltd.'s (6702) ATM, which features a palm vein biometric identification system.

Hitachi-Omron's ATM will use a biometric technology developed by Hitachi Ltd. (6501). The machine will also offer improved security features, such as a display that makes it hard to peek at what is on screen and a mirror to let customers see if anyone is behind them.

Hitachi-Omron, a joint venture between Hitachi and Omron Corp. (6645), hopes to sell 30,000 units of the new ATM over three years.
