Salto Adds Room Key Support in Apple Wallet for Hospitality Properties

Salto's room key integration for Apple Wallet allows hotel guests to use an iPhone or Apple Watch to access rooms, amenities and shared spaces without physical keycards.
Salto has announced support for room key in Apple Wallet across its hospitality smart access solutions, allowing guests to use an iPhone or Apple Watch to access hotel rooms and shared spaces.
The new capability integrates with the Salto Space hospitality smart access management platform and is designed to enhance convenience, security and operational efficiency for both hotels and guests. With room key in Apple Wallet, guests can unlock doors by tapping a reader or holding a compatible device nearby, eliminating the need for physical room keys or dedicated mobile applications.
According to Salto, the integration allows hotel operators to streamline room key distribution and management across an entire property. Access credentials can be delivered securely through remote provisioning, supporting guest mobile check-in and immediate room access while helping optimize front-desk operations.
The company said the solution can help reduce operational challenges associated with physical key issuance and guest check-in processes. By enabling guests to add room keys directly to Apple Wallet on their iPhone or Apple Watch, hotels can simplify check-in workflows and reduce lobby congestion.
Once a room key has been added to Apple Wallet through a Salto credential manager technology partner, guests can use their device to access hotel rooms, amenities and common areas. The solution also supports standalone and multi-property deployments, providing flexibility for a variety of hospitality environments.
Key features include native storage of room keys within Apple Wallet, Express Mode for tap-to-unlock access without opening an app and a power reserve capability that allows access for up to five hours after a device battery has been depleted. The platform also supports remote key provisioning and management through Salto Space.
Additional functionality includes digital key sharing through Apple Wallet. Guests can share room keys with family members, friends or colleagues and assign customizable permissions that determine when, where and for how long access is granted. Shared access can also be revoked when needed.
Salto said the solution incorporates privacy and security protections built into Apple devices. Room keys are stored directly on the device and Apple does not track the locations a guest accesses. In the event a device is lost, users can use Apple's Find My functionality to lock the device and help protect their information. The system also supports instant room key cancellation.
Room key in Apple Wallet is now available for compatible Apple devices running the latest operating systems.
