Richardson Electronics announced Wednesday that the company is moving into the RFID market with a focus on security, wireless and medical applications. The move comes with the announcement of a product and sales partnership with WJ Communications. Richardson Electronics has extensive experience in the RF and wireless communications markets, and the company's RF experience leads naturally to the current RFID focus.
For now, Richardson says it has "assembled both a software and a system developer kit" that will be used with WJ's card readers so that the company can offer a simple plug-n-play RFID offering.
The company promises to take its expertise in security and healthcare markets and apply its RFID developments to these areas, according to statements made in an Oct. 20 news release.
