NBFAA Deadline for Youth Scholarship Program Approaches

March 21, 2007
Deadline for scholarships applications is March 30, 2007

The deadline for submitting applications to the National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) for the national Youth Scholarship Program runs through the end of this month -- March 30, 2007.

The scholarships were created in 1996 to honor the children of fire and police responders, and are given based on a number of achievement factors, including scholarship, test scores, extracurricular activities and an essay on the topic of "What it means to me to have my parent or guardian involved in securing our community".

For the 2007 scholarships, the NBFAA was able to double the funding. Winners now receive $10,000 for first place, $7,500 for second place and $2,500 for third place.

The NBFAA released the following details on the program:

- Eligible students must be between 15 and 20 years old, a graduating high school senior and have been accepted for admission to an accredited college or university. Each eligible student must have a father, mother or natural guardian who is a full-time police officer or fire fighter.

- Students residing in a state with a participating NBFAA CSA must enter through their state-level scholarship program to be considered for the national awards. The winners from each state are automatically considered for the national scholarship. Students who reside in a state without an NBFAA chapter or in a non-participating state should submit their applications directly to NBFAA.

- For complete scholarship rules and a list of participating states visit NBFAA's Web site at www.alarm.org/info_ctr/security-scholar.html. The deadline for submitting applications is March 30, 2007.
