Jan. 20, 2009

To help coordinate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, authorities throughout Washington, D.C., will be using Cooper Notification’s Alert DC text messaging system to communicate.

According to a statement issued by the company, Alert DC, which was launched in 2002, uses the company’s Roam Secure Alert Network and will allow law enforcement officials to efficiently respond to security threats during the inauguration festivities.

The system also gives authorities the ability to communicate emergency information to those in the public who have signed up to receive messages via Alert DC.

To learn more about Alert DC or to sign up, visit https://textalert.ema.dc.gov/register.php. To automatically register, text "DC" to to 411911 from any text-enabled device.
